Run Ottawa's Annual 5K Light Run 2026

Run Ottawa's Annual 5K Light Run is Ottawa's favourite holiday evening run, held each December from the iconic Ottawa City Hall. As winter darkness falls over the capital, hundreds of runners and walkers take to the downtown streets dressed in their brightest holiday costumes, decked out with lights and reflective gear to transform the city into a glowing celebration of the season.

This isn't just a race — it's a fundraiser for the Ottawa Food Bank. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and cash donations on race night, with online donations also accepted. It's a meaningful way to give back to the community while enjoying the twinkling lights of downtown Ottawa.

The event is community-focused rather than competitively timed. Participants organize into designated pace groups and follow a festive 5K route through Ottawa's illuminated streets, observing pedestrian traffic rules along the way. Whether you're chasing a personal best or simply soaking in the holiday atmosphere, the Light Run is a welcoming event for all fitness levels.

Organized by Run Ottawa as part of their mission to build a strong running community in the capital, the Light Run has become a beloved December tradition. The event is weather-dependent — follow Run Ottawa on social media for any date changes closer to December.
